As the holiday season quickly approaches, we would like to take the opportunity to help those in our community and beyond. Using our HERO GEM Character Education program, we will be focusing on “HOPE”. Groh P.S. has partnered with 3 organizations with the “HOPE” of making this holiday season brighter for many families. Participation in these drives is completely voluntary. You may donate as much or as little as you choose. The three drives also align nicely with the United Way’s message to the community, “change the power of poverty!”

The 1st of the 3 drives will kick-off on Monday, November 20, 2017 and will run until Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Students will meet with their partner classes to make up shoeboxes supporting First Peoples in Northern Canadian communities. Please see the chart below for information regarding your child’s class and the age and gender they will be focusing on for their shoebox.

The I Love First Peoples is a Canadian registered charity that empowers youth to succeed through education. Each shoebox is packed using quality items that promote education and good nutrition. Please consider donating to help Northern Canadian communities have hope for a better future by donating items such as: Arts and Craft Supplies (i.e., Finger paint, Modelling clay, Colouring book, Stickers, Sketch pad, Gel pens, Sharpies, Journal), Fashion Accessories (i.e., Ball cap, Gloves, Fun socks, Sunglasses, Jewelry, Hair accessories), Toys and Games (i.e., Stuffed animal, Puzzle, Nerf ball), Sporting Goods (i.e., Whistle, Compass, Glow in the dark decals, Seed starter kit, Flashlight), Small Instruments (i.e., Tambourine, Harmonica, Flute, Small hand drum), Beauty Products. Our 2nd initiative will be to support CTV’s Toy Mountain. New, unwrapped toys or gift cards can be brought in to school from:                 November 27-December 14. CTV will then be sure to distribute the toys to children aged 0-12. All donations directly benefit less fortunate children in our region.

Finally, 0ur 3rd campaign will be in support of the Doon Pioneer Park Christmas Miracle Food Hampers. We will collect toonies and non-perishable food items from December 1-14. Students will receive a sticker to decorate their grade’s Christmas tree, which will be proudly displayed in the school’s front entrance. Contributions to this campaign will help to ensure that the deliveries to 50+ families in our community continue again this year!

We wish to thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity. Together we can help bring HOPE to communities who are in need this holiday season!

Sincerely,

Your Groh Family
